Lesghi rug- East Caucasian, ,
black field with three classic Lesghi stars, enclosed by ivory interlocking love-bird border flanked by reciprocal diamond and octagon guards, late 19th.century, 165 x 105cm, sold.

Lesghi is an attribution which I would never use lightly. This rug has many of the the typical East Caucasian constructional features but exhibits them in a peculiar and tribally robust manner that is to be expected from the group. Dark and light wool twin wefts and 3-ply wool warps (one dark shoot), five strand light wool selvage - vivid natural colours.
