A small Hereke silk rug - Turkish, the slight green field with a central lobed medallion enclosed by scrolling flowerheads, slight pink spandrels and rust-brown main border, silk foundation, 1950's/1960's, 118 x 71cm, £275.
More akin to a piece of cloth than a knotted rug, this rug is so delicate. The colours are particularly subtle, the rust-brown having almost a metallic bronze appearance - digital images never do silk rugs justice. At 40-50 years old, and a bit to go before it becomes 'antique', a top quality rug such as this should make a good investment.
